A note from BON
We started BON in Boston and for the world because we believe that Coffee Speaks Every Language. That belief carries over to how we handle your information. This policy covers what we collect when you visit one of our cafes, use the BON app, order ahead, join a BON loyalty program, connect to our WiFi, come to a BON event, enter a BON contest or promotion, send or receive a BON gift, or visit our website bonspecialtycoffee.com or any of our social media platforms. We kept it as plain as we could. You should not need a law degree to understand what happens with your own data.
Who we are
BON Specialty Coffee, also referred to as “BON”, “BON! Specialty Coffee”, “BON!” is a specialty coffee and matcha brand based in Boston. Our cafes are operated by their respective location companies: 22 Beacon Coffee LLC (BON Beacon Hill), BON FENWAY LLC (BON Fenway), and BON SOUTH END LLC (BON South End), with the same structure planned for any future locations, together with any future BON location companies. In this policy, "BON," "we," "us," and "our" refer to these companies collectively.
This policy applies to:
- Our website bonspecialtycoffee.com
- The BON app, on iOS and Android
- Our in-cafe WiFi
- Our loyalty programs, including BON Regulars and BON Executive Club
- Events we host at our cafes, including music events at BON Fenway
- Contests, giveaways, and other promotions we run
- Gift cards and gifting features on our website or app
- Any other place we link to this policy
Information we collect
Information you give us directly
When you create a BON account, place an order, join a loyalty program, register for an event, enter a contest or promotion, send or receive a gift, apply for a job, or reach out to us, you may give us:
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- Your mailing or delivery address, if you order merchandise, have something shipped, or receive a physical gift
- Payment information, when you pay through the app or website (see “Payment information” below)
- Anything you send us directly, like a message, review, or job application
Event registration and attendance
If you sign up for a BON event, such as a music event at BON Fenway, we collect what we need to register you, like your name and email, and sometimes age, if an event has an age restriction. At our events, photos and video may be taken for BON’s own promotional use. If you’d rather not appear in event photos or footage, let a team member know at the event, or contact us afterward and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Contests and promotions
If you enter a BON contest, sweepstakes, or giveaway, such as a trip giveaway, we collect what’s needed to run it and contact you if you win, which may include your name, email, phone number, mailing address, date of birth, and, for prizes involving travel, information needed to book that travel, like passport details. For prizes above a certain value, the law may require us to collect a Social Security number or tax ID to report the prize to tax authorities. Each contest we run will have its own Official Rules, which will explain exactly what’s collected and how it’s used for that promotion. Those rules work alongside this policy.
Digital gifting
If you send or receive a BON gift, such as a gift card or a gift order, through our website or app, we collect what’s needed to process it, including the recipient’s contact information if you provide it to us.
Information we collect automatically
When you use the app or connect to our WiFi, we automatically collect:
- Your device’s location, so we can point you to the nearest BON and support delivery or pickup
- A device token, so we can send you push notifications you’ve opted into
- Basic usage data, like which features you use and how often
- On our Wi-Fi network, standard connection information such as device identifiers and connection times, for network security and performance. We do not monitor the content of what you browse on our Wi-Fi.
Information from third parties
You can create a BON account or log in using Google or Facebook or Apple. If you do, we receive basic profile information from that service, typically your name, email address, and profile picture. You’re in control of what you share this way through your settings on that platform.
Payment information
We don’t store your full card number on our own servers. Payments made through the app or website are processed by a third-party payment processor, and we receive only what’s needed to complete and confirm your order, such as the last four digits of your card and the transaction result.
Job applicants
If you apply for a role at BON, information you send us, including your resume, whether by email or through an application form on our site, is used only to evaluate your application and reach out to you about it.
How we use your information
We use what we collect to:
- Run your account and your loyalty program balance, across BON Regulars, BON Executive Club, or any other tier
- Take, prepare, and fulfill your orders
- Process payments
- Send you order updates, receipts, and service messages
- Send you offers, rewards, and news about BON, if you’ve opted in
- Register you for events and let you know about upcoming ones
- Run our contests and promotions, and contact winners
- Process gifts sent or received through BON
- Find you the nearest BON and support delivery
- Keep our app, website, and Wi-Fi secure and working properly
- Understand how people use BON so we can make it better
- Meet our legal and tax obligations
How we share your information
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only in some situations where it is required, including but not limited to:
Service providers
Companies that help us run BON, like our payment processor, app development platform, email and text messaging tools, and analytics providers. They’re only allowed to use your information to do the work we’ve asked them to do.
Prize fulfillment
If you win a BON contest or promotion that includes travel or a third-party experience, we may share what’s needed, like your name and travel document information, with vendors such as airlines, hotels, or event organizers to make that happen.
Legal reasons
If the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith it’s necessary to protect BON, our customers, or the public.
Business changes
If BON is ever part of a merger, sale, or reorganization, your information may transfer as part of that deal. You can reach out to get any information you need or request to not include such information.
With your consent
For any other reason, only if you did not object to it and/or you’ve said it’s okay.
Cookies and similar technology
Our website uses standard cookies and similar tools to keep the site working and to understand how it’s used, including basic analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Turning some off may affect how the site works.
Texts and email
If you sign up for BON offers or updates by text or email, you’re agreeing to receive them. You can opt out any time: reply STOP to any text, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. We’ll still send you important messages related to your account or an order you’ve placed, like a receipt or a pickup notification.
Your choices and rights
Access, update, or delete your information
You can update most of your account details right in the BON app. To request a copy of your information, ask us to correct something, or ask us to delete your account, email us at the address below. As BON grows into new states, we’ll update this section with any specific rights and opt-out tools that apply.
Children’s privacy
BON is not directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.
How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as long as we need it to provide our services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymize it.
Keeping your information secure
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no method of storing or transmitting data online is completely secure. We can’t guarantee absolute security, and neither can anyone else who tells you otherwise.
Links to other sites
Our app and website may link to other sites we don’t run, including our social media pages. We’re not responsible for how those sites handle your information. Once you leave BON, this policy no longer applies.
Where your data is stored
Your data might be stored in various areas including but not limited to BON servers, service provider servers, third-party servers, payment processing servers, and online marketing servers. You agree that BON is not to be held liable for how your data is stored or if data is unknowingly shared or breached for reasons beyond our control. We always work with leading and well-known service providers to make sure your data is protected at all times, but we cannot be held liable if otherwise.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as BON grows and changes. If we make a material change, we’ll update the "Last updated" date above and, where required, let you know directly.
